But also for not having to have the daily battle about wearing coats, and not having to wear coats in general (optimistic, much?) Here’s some really cheerful spring-themed children’s clothes I have my eye on: Apple of my Eye sweatshirt set with leggings, striped Jersey crawlers with contrasting knees (these are SO useful for littler babies, especially ones who hate socks – it means you don’t have to spend your whole time putting them back on) and baggy Jellybean trousers all from Joules Yellow animal pocket pet t-shirt (love this!), bird leggings, farm friends top, fun rainbow jumper all from Mini Boden Frugi sheep t-shirt from John Lewis What are you looking forward to about spring? Baby brain, trains and t-shirts https://www.ababyonboard.com/baby-brain-trains-and-t-shirts/ https://www.ababyonboard.com/baby-brain-trains-and-t-shirts/#comments Sun, 17 May 2015 21:40:25 +0000 https://www.ababyonboard.com/?p=9976 Good weekend? Here’s a round-up of life, lately… I was pretty thrilled to be at number 4 in the Tots 100 top ten baby blogs for 2015 (out of 10,000 blogs!) It made me really happy, especially as I’m currently up against my usual blogging battles of baby brain, no sleep and no time…a massive thank you for reading. Did you know Thomas the Tank Engine is 70? He doesn’t look it, does he? Last weekend we headed over to his birthday party at the British Museum. A crazy and riotous affair, it took place in the small hours of…the afternoon, with loads of kids running around and harassed parents running after them. There was a giant Thomas-shaped cake, cinema showings of the episodes, face painting, toys and everyone taking selfies with the giant Thomas (and the Fat Controller photobombing ours). Our mini  Thomas fan had an absolute blast, and the goodie bag kept her entertained for hours on the way home. A few people asked about the cards that featured in my open letter to sleep, as well as my post on mum milestones. They are Miffy Milestone cards that we were sent recently. There are 30 cards in the box, each marking a specific baby milestone with the iconic Miffy illustrations (you can buy the cards from Amazon).  I was a massive Miffy fan as a child, and it’s one of the childhood favourites I’m happily passing on. It’s Miffy’s 60th birthday this month, so expect a few more Miffy posts shortly. A big thanks to etre petite for Eliza’s t-shirt! It’s the new current favourite… And finally, if you’ve yet to nominate in the MAD Awards, I’d love a nomination in the pregnancy or baby category (which you can do here). Thank you xx. Recent posts: other people’s Sophies, why we took our daughters to vote, and Florence’s six month baby update.

Outfits for a sunny spring weekend https://www.ababyonboard.com/outfits-for-a-sunny-spring-weekend/ https://www.ababyonboard.com/outfits-for-a-sunny-spring-weekend/#respond Sun, 06 Apr 2014 16:16:44 +0000 https://www.ababyonboard.com/?p=5762 Hurrah, it’s finally spring. So no more thick tights and winter coats, right? So when we were asked by Florence & Fred – the clothing range from Tesco – to choose some outfits for our Mother’s Day weekend, I picked some things suitable for a sunny day at the seaside as we would be spending ours with my Mum and Dad down in Bournemouth. I picked two outfits for Eliza, below. They were the stripy pink and blue dress from Charlie&Me (£12) and the blue denim dress (£10). I also picked blue leggings (£4) and spotty canvas shoes (£5) to go with both. OK, so these were optimistically sunny outfits for March – hence the photos being taken inside – but I thought they were too lovely to resist. We’ve been wearing the denim dress lots already as it looks great with a long-sleeved top and tights, and I know we’ll get lots of use out of the stripy dress in the summer. The leggings are good value for such a wardrobe staple; and although they are slightly too big at the moment, I know they’ll be worn lots in a few month’s time. I’m already a fan of supermarket clothing ranges, as they offer really cost-effective and quality alternatives, especially for children. And lets face it, anything fun you can pick up makes doing the supermarket shop that little bit more interesting. But I was really impressed by the wide range on the Florence & Fred website; for both children and adults.  We were provided with a choice of clothes from Florence & Fred; read my disclaimer policy here.

Summer sandals for small feet – a toddler round-up https://www.ababyonboard.com/summer-sandals-for-toddlers/ https://www.ababyonboard.com/summer-sandals-for-toddlers/#comments Mon, 17 Jun 2013 09:58:09 +0000 https://www.ababyonboard.com/?p=3241 With summer reluctantly shuffling its way in, we thought it was finally time to invest in some toddler-proof sandals for Eliza. I have been surprisingly restrained when it has come to buying shoes for her, possibly due to the trauma of buying her first pair. But summer shoes are just so much more fun, aren’t they? As a result, she’s somehow now ended up with three new pairs of footwear. These are our favourites, all from the high-street: White / flowery sandals from Clarks, with an aquatic theme underneath that Eliza loves (modern day Magic Steps? Children of the 80s will know what I’m talking about) Zara Kids Liberty-print fabric sandals (bought from France, but I presume they are available online and in the UK) And finally, gold and silver mini gladiators from Monsoon. These were a complete impulse buy in a fit of ‘oooh that’s why it’s fun to have a girl.’ What’s on your feet this summer? Here’s my all-time favourite pairs of shoes.

Polarn O. Pyret – four ways to wear it https://www.ababyonboard.com/polarn-o-pyret/ https://www.ababyonboard.com/polarn-o-pyret/#comments Tue, 11 Jun 2013 07:48:03 +0000 https://www.ababyonboard.com/?p=3053 Oh Polarn O. Pyret, super-cool Swedish children’s clothing brand. We were sent the red striped sweet treats top and chino toddler trousers to review, but I didn’t want my eternal love of stripes to cloud my reviewing judgement. So, we wore the clothes in a range of different scenarios to test out how they fared against four different criteria. Like a magazine-style ‘ways to wear it’ feature on different ways to style one item, but with a twist, here’s the four ways, wheres and whys we wore them. So how did we get on? Wanting to test how practical the clothes are, we wore them to the park…and are happy to report they they held up well to the slides, swings, climbing frame and all the excited running around and falling over that takes place. On a mum note, size-wise you can get lots of wear out of them – the trousers fold up easily so it’s fine if they’re a bit too long to start with, and there’s a handy adjustable waist band Another mum note, I know, but as children’s clothes are permanently in the wash they need to hold up well. So we wore them out to lunch with some friends (including Nick). Going out is always a good test of the washability of Eliza’s clothes because she always wants to try out everyone’s food and it’s likely to get everywhere. And indeed it did. but after a normal wash they came out stain-free, and after several washes, neither the top or the trousers have faded at all. The sweet emblem has started to crack slightly though, but I think that’s just the nature of the material that’s used We wanted to test how comfortable the top is for just hanging out at home. As the top is really soft it didn’t seem to bother her or get in the way of all the running around, playing, getting into cupboards and mischief that she normally gets up to And finally, how did they look? We went to the Tate Modern (Eliza’s in the children’s room, bottom right photo). And in terms of the look factor, the stripes are vibrant and bright, and I love the unisex factor and the bold primary red. The cupcake emblem makes the top a bit more interesting, but there’s nothing sickly about it. Every time Eliza wears the top, someone comments on it. So…what’s the verdict? They’re really fun, practical clothes that children can run around in (and do baby yoga, or climb stairs). They look great, but you don’t worry in the slightest about them getting them messy. I was already a big fan of the brand before, but trying these clothes out has just confirmed it. A brilliant buy for babies of any age.

Summer clothes for children, from Burp! Boutique https://www.ababyonboard.com/summer-clothes-for-children/ https://www.ababyonboard.com/summer-clothes-for-children/#comments Sun, 19 May 2013 21:29:26 +0000 https://www.ababyonboard.com/?p=3018 We’re off on holiday soon (thanks for all the toddler travel tips). Although we’re only hopping over the channel, I’m optimistically hoping it’ll be positively balmy. So this means Eliza needs more clothes, as her wardrobe is still suited to the temperature of this eternal Game of Thrones-esque winter that we’re having. I’ve written before about one of our favourite children’s clothing sites – the brilliant Burp! Boutique. I love so much of the summer stock, as there are so many vibrant, colourful clothes that are practical without being boring. So here’s our top picks of outfits for warmer weather…no surprise that stripes feature heavily. As above, from top left: dress, Boys&Girls / leopard print dress, Oh Baby London / bee dress Oh Baby London / middle left: pink top, Indikidual / flowery top, Oh Baby London / stripy skirt, Boys & Girls / bottom row: mini hawaiian shirt, Oh Baby London / stripy leggings, Oh Baby London (I want a pair for me!) All available here. Eliza is pretty book obsessed at the moment – we’re going for new daily records on number of recitals of The Tiger Who Came to Tea – so we definitely need new things to read on the long car journeys. There’s lots on the site too, including the classic This is Britain and the holiday edition of Anorak magazine. And finally, we love this Corby Tindersticks felt world weather map that just looks like an awful lot of fun for everyone (it’s new to the site, and there’s also a UK-specific version for all the mini Micheal Fishes). Because of course, what holiday would be complete without obsessing over the weather?

We love the new DVF range for BabyGap https://www.ababyonboard.com/new-dvf-range-babygap/ https://www.ababyonboard.com/new-dvf-range-babygap/#comments Thu, 25 Apr 2013 11:47:04 +0000 https://www.ababyonboard.com/?p=2875 Looking for some summer clothes for the mini ones, now the weather has finally turned? I’m ever-so-slightly in love with the new DVF for BabyGap Explorer range. It’s the second time that Gap have teamed up with DVF, aka Diane Von Furstenburg, maker of the iconic wrap dress (did you know she used to be a Princess?). No surprise that I’m a big fan of BabyGap, along with most other mums – I wrote about the Peter Rabbit collection earlier on in the year – but this range is particularly brilliant. It’s full of really bright prints and colours, dresses, patterned jeans, actual mini wrap dresses, unusual shapes and styles and a whole load of other loveliness (mini espadrilles, swimming costumes, sunglasses). It’s perfect timing for holidays and will look great on the whirling dervish that is my walking toddler. The clothes are on the pricer end of the BabyGap spectrum, but oh well, look at them…what do you think?

50 ways to wear it for Comic Relief, with TK Maxx https://www.ababyonboard.com/comic-relief-charity-tshirts/ https://www.ababyonboard.com/comic-relief-charity-tshirts/#respond Thu, 28 Feb 2013 22:11:52 +0000 https://www.ababyonboard.com/?p=2376 Can you believe it’s coming up to the 25th Red Nose Day? I can actually remember when it started (how old does that make me feel?). This year the brilliant Stella McCartney has designed a range of t-shirts for the charity, which are currently on sale at TK Maxx. There’s several different designs, from a giraffe through to The Beatles, and the good news for mini fashion fans – and their mums – is that they are available in sizes for both adults and children. In a bid to raise £10,000 for Comic Relief, TK Maxx have also launched the ‘50 Ways to Wear It‘ fashion challenge app, where you can upload a photo showing how you’ve styled your Red Nose Day t-shirt. For each photo that’s uploaded, TK Maxx will donate £1 to Comic Relief – and every week, one random entry will win a £50 gift card. Fashion blogger Mademoiselle Robot has created a video showing how she styles hers, you can look at photos of everyone else too, and there’s also a campaign hashtag; #RNDTEE, if you want to get involved. We will be uploading ours, once I decide which ones to get us; I can’t decide between the giraffe or red long-sleeved Beatles baby ones (I’m going for the Kate Moss one though, no contest). Does this count as Eliza’s first item of designer clothing? I reckon so – watch out Harper Beckham!

Baby lions from burp! Boutique https://www.ababyonboard.com/baby-lions-from-burp-boutique/ https://www.ababyonboard.com/baby-lions-from-burp-boutique/#comments Fri, 22 Feb 2013 23:25:26 +0000 https://www.ababyonboard.com/?p=2348 Eliza is a mini person of a million nicknames, but the one that seems to have stuck the most at the moment is Lion (every time I call it her in public within earshot of anyone else, I realise that I’m probably partly responsible for all those threads on mum forums about ridiculous baby names). So it’s no surprise that I loved the new Olive & Moss lion hoodie at burp! Boutique. Even her Dad did. The little guys in the photo are Noodolls, also new on the site. People I know, hurry up and have more babies so I can buy them as presents…

Children’s sweatshirt of awesomeness from Tootsa MacGinty https://www.ababyonboard.com/childrens-sweatshirt-of-awesomeness-from-tootsa-macginty/ https://www.ababyonboard.com/childrens-sweatshirt-of-awesomeness-from-tootsa-macginty/#comments Fri, 28 Sep 2012 14:57:32 +0000 https://www.ababyonboard.com/?p=1451 My parents have just been on holiday, and bought Eliza a present of the red bear sweatshirt from Tootsa MacGinty that I mentioned in my blog post about brilliant baby clothes. Lucky old Eliza. My mum hadn’t actually read that blog post – I know, right? – and bought the jumper independently of knowing I liked it. Psychic Grandma! Anyway it’s just as good as the photos look; Alex and I joked that Eliza can use the bear’s mouth pouch to squirrel away some of her favourite snacks (at the moment, bread sticks or rice cakes). What other children’s clothes brands or retailers does everyone like? I am currently in the chilly mists of a self-imposed clothes-buying freeze – for both myself and the mini me – but if you ever see any great baby clothes I might not have heard of, I’d love to know.
